For Anyone- Framed Caricature

If you really want to dazzle guests at a friend’s birthday party, have a personalized caricature made for them! I had this one done for a friend’s 40th birthday. A small group of us were going to dinner to celebrate, and when I realized we’d never taken a photo all together, I thought a fun way to memorialize the event would be to get some sort of ridiculous caricature made of all of us. It’s unique, sentimental, and fun. (Plus, I learned that I look damn good in cartoon form).

I called up a friend of a friend, sent over some photos, gave him free reign over theme, and later matted and framed the photo. It is one of the best gifts I’ve ever given. And as a bonus, everyone feels included!

(If you live near LA, I’ll send you the name of the guy I had do this. He did a bang up job, even though I only gave him 24 hours notice. Love it!)

For Mom – The Porthole

My mom recently discovered Pinterest, and when she’s not searching baby shower ideas for a grandchild that only exists in her head (terrifying), she’s pinning a MILLION fancy recipes.  Now, if you’re anything like me, you’ve pinned your share of dips and tarts, but have not even REMOTELY attempted to follow through on any of them. Well, my mom has. A lot. And since she’s spending all of her free time experimenting with homemade paninis and pastas, I thought this GORGEOUS liquid infuser would be a fun (and beautiful) addition to her kitchen.

Throw in some rosemary and olive oil, or strawberries and vodka. Whatever you want. It’ll be pretty and delicious. Like the meringue I pinned yesterday and will never make.
